The Training Staff
Jerry Karzen M.A.
Jerry (photographed with Dr. Feldenkrais
in 1982 on the right) is the Educational Director of the Hawaii Feldenkrais® Training
Program, and will serve as a trainer in 60% of the training. He is a graduate
of the 1977 San Francisco Training with Dr. Feldenkrais. Jerry worked with Dr.
Feldenkrais at the Feldenkrais Institute in Tel-Aviv. When they lived together
between 1976 and 1984, Jerry was Moshe Feldenkrais' personal traveling
companion, secretary and close friend. He assisted in the editing of Dr.
Feldenkrais' last two books and directed, or himself videotaped, 95% of all
existing tapes of Dr. Feldenkrais' private Functional Integration®
lessons. At the request of Dr. Feldenkrais, Jerry organized and administered his
last training program and was the first Executive Director of the Feldenkrais
Foundation. He has also served as President of the North American Feldenkrais
Guild®.
Jerry has been the educational director for over twenty
programs since 1982, and is currently educational director for programs in
Europe and Hawaii. He was chosen by Dr. Feldenkrais to be a trainer in 1982.
Jerry is known primarily for his interpretive abilities and explanations of Dr. Feldenkrais’ Functional Integration lessons on videotape. A number of these will be shown during the course of the program. He is also known for his simple “bottom line” pragmatic approach, while simultaneously incorporating an open-ended “exploratory and non directive” teaching style.
"Jerry Karzen understands the deep connections that Moshe Feldenkrais achieved
through touch and brings that level of awareness and sensitivity into his work."
-Jane Parsons-Fein, CSWBCD President Emeritus--Director of Training The
New York Milton H. Erickson Society for Psychotherapy and Hypnosis, Inc.
"Jerry Karzen was an associate and companion to Moshe during his final
teaching years. As a trainer, he is committed to teaching the Feldenkrais
Method as he learned it from Moshe. He does so with humor, compassion and
sincere concern for each student's learning process."
John Chester, M.D.

graduate of the 1983 Amherst Training. His background in collegiate basketball
and the martial arts has given him a deep understanding of function and he is
able to demonstrate with unusual proficiency the dynamic use of self that Dr.
Feldenkrais was always utilizing himself in his lessons. Jeff is scheduled to
teach the beginning month after the third year [and again in the fourth year]when these skills are most
appropriate to be learned. Jeff has been the Educational Director for many
programs in the Pacific Northwest and one in New Zealand. Jeff currently lives
with his wife and two young children in Bend Oregon, where he also maintains a
very active private practice.

years assisting children and adults to meet the challenges posed by cerebral

The Hawaii Feldenkrais Training is a wonderful opportunity to learn the
Feldenkrais Method from an outstanding faculty. Jerry Karzen was the
educational director for my training program and has a wonderful
appreciation for the knowledge and skills of physical and occupational
therapists who wish to practice at the highest level of integrated
movement systems. The Feldenkrais Method® has allowed me to develop and
utilize efficient and effective movement strategies in the rehabilitation
of musculoskeletal, sports, neurologic, and cardiopulmonary impairments.
